FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is counselling?

Counselling allows you to discuss your thoughts and feelings in a confidential and non-judgemental environment. In life we often go through experiences that are not always worked through or acknowledged. These crises have a way of influencing our life in the present moment. Counselling can help us to put those thoughts and feelings into words, and experience emotions that we have kept hidden or denied.

Counselling will enable you to have a better understanding of yourself and become more accepting of your situation in life. Equally, there may be something in the present moment that you want to work through and together we can progress towards a solution or an acceptance that some things we cannot change. I am not here to offer advice - after all you are the expert on you.

What does integrative mean?

Integrative Counselling means that I work within three distinct models, which give more flexibility to my work and in turn produce a unique therapy adapted to suit what my client wants and needs

What is a contract?

A counselling contract covers confidentiality, time, regularity and commitment, and payment. We can also decide on what you are hoping to achieve from our time together.

What about confidentiality?

Everything discussed during our sessions together remains confidential. The only time confidentiality would be broken is if I felt you were going to harm yourself or others - if possible that would be discussed with you first. We will talk about confidentially during our first session.

Do I discuss my work with anyone?

I attend sessions regularly with a senior supervisor who I discuss aspects of my work with. This time allows me to obtain another professional view of my work. Every counsellor is expected to have a supervisor in this role. The supervisor does not know the identity of the client.

I also undertake continuous professional development. I am a member of the BACP and work within its Code of Ethics. I am fully insured.

What training have I had?

I am a fully qualified Integrative Counsellor and have completed training and been awarded the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Accredited Diploma.

How many sessions?

The amount of sessions you will need will depend on what you are hoping to achieve in counselling. We will discuss this at our first session.

How much will it cost?

I charge £40 per 50 minute session, reduced to £25 for Diploma students. Payment should be made at the end of each session.

And finally ...

In today's society, where we spend so much money and time on beauty, physical fitness, pampering and looking good on the outside, taking some time to look after our mental health and inner self can be hugely beneficial and life changing.

Call me and we can see how counselling could help you.
